Tuleyevsky is a medium-late variety that managed to gain popularity among many experienced gardeners. It is grown for their own use or for the sale of tubers in order to obtain decent profits. The variety is famous for its presentation, smooth tubers, excellent taste. But it all depends on the proper cultivation and care.
Characteristics and description of the variety
Potato varieties Tuleyevsky is a medium late variety, ripening 80-110 days after the appearance of the first seedlings. But if necessary, gardeners dig potatoes after 50-60 days "for testing".
The potato bushes are compact, low, about 30-35 cm. Each plant has at least six side shoots. It is characterized by straight or slightly drooping stems. The green mass is small, but the foliage is large, the edges are slightly corrugated. Tuleyevsky is recognizable by its bright, lilac flowers, painted with yellow petals at the base. Corolla large, snow-white.
In this variety, gardeners appreciate even, oval tubers with yellow-beige peel, which is slightly rough to the touch. Potatoes have shallow, shallow eyes. The pulp is dense, yellowish. It does not darken during heat treatment; on the contrary, it becomes brighter.
The average weight of one potato reaches from 150 to 270 grams. Rarely, growers collect small tubers. But there are also fruits that exceed 500-600 grams in weight. This is only possible with proper care and favorable weather conditions. On average, up to 25 potatoes with a total weight of up to 7 kilograms are harvested from one bush.
The average productivity of the Tuley potato when grown on an industrial scale is about 180-300 centners per 1 hectare. But higher rates are not excluded.

History of creation
Potato Tuleyevsky was created by Siberian breeders at the Research Institute of Agriculture of the city of Kemerovo. To create used several varieties of Russian and Canadian breeding, including Chernsky and Tolokan. The removal of Tuleyevsky took about 10 years. The potato got its name in honor of the most popular person in Kuzbass, the governor of the Kemerovo region Aman Gumirovich Tuleyev, who ruled for 20 years. The variety was added to the State Register in 2006. Variety cultivation is recommended in the regions of Western Siberia.
The variety was developed specifically for cultivation in harsh Siberian conditions, but it was quickly appreciated by vegetable growers of the Urals, the Far East, and those who live in the European part of Russia.
How to plant a Tuleevsky variety?
Potato Tuleyevsky requires compliance with certain requirements when planting. Initially prepare the soil and seed before laying potatoes in holes or trenches.
Soil preparation
Gardeners prefer to plant Tuleyevsky potatoes in furrows. Wells are prepared for planting potatoes, the distance between which is 65-70 cm, the depth of the holes is 15 cm.
In autumn and spring, they must dig the soil, carefully weed, getting rid of the stems and roots of weeds. They begin to land when the earth warms up to + 8-10 degrees. To stimulate the development of the plant, the formation of a strong bush, the seed material is treated with any stimulant.
Preparing planting material
Three days before planting, you need to cut the tubers into several parts, so that each is about 50 grams. On parts leave 2-3 eyes. Leave for a while to warm and green the peel - put in the sun. Then proceed to planting potatoes in pre-prepared wells.
How to care for potatoes?
Tuleevsky potatoes are characterized by compact, low bushes, but they need to be buried at least three times per season:
- The first time the procedure is carried out when the first shoots appear - this helps to protect young plants from probable frosts. Even under adverse conditions, seedlings appear quickly and amicably.
- The second hilling is carried out simultaneously with the beginning of flowering.
- The third time the procedure is carried out at the moment when the stems begin to nick, "laying down" in the aisles. If the weather is not very nice in summer, fresh mullein, bird droppings or liquid nettle leaves diluted in water are initially poured into the wells. This is considered an excellent support for plants.
It is important not to forget about the regular cultivation of row-spacings, preferably after rain. The variety does not need watering. On the contrary, many gardeners are convinced that watering can only harm potatoes. Because of this, the tubers become more “watery”, and the taste is slightly lost. It can also cause rotting of tubers. Only if there has been no rain for more than a month, and the heat does not subside, a slight moistening of the row spacing is permissible.

The variety is sensitive to deficiency in the soil of boron. Obvious signs are falling of flowers, squatting and thickening of plant stems, drying of apical buds, light green stripes along the veins on the leaves.
In order not to encounter the problem of the formation of voids in the tubers, the plants are sprayed with a solution of boric acid (2 g per 10 l of water). For 1 square meter takes 1 liter of solution. It is better to carry out the procedure in cloudy weather in the morning or in the evening. Spraying is repeated several times per season, because boron does not have the ability to switch from old leaves to new ones.
It is also recommended to introduce natural organic fertilizers: wood ash, compost, rotted manure, humus. But they need to be applied only with severe depletion of the soil. This usually happens if potatoes are grown in one place for more than several years in a row.
Pests and diseases, prevention
Like all potato varieties, Tuleyevsky is also exposed to various pests and diseases. It is characterized by increased resistance to potato cancer, common scab, alternariosis. Moderately susceptible to late blight and viral diseases.
It is exposed to a golden nematode. This leads to damage to the root system by worms. The stems begin to weaken, turn yellow prematurely. The number of tubers is reduced or not at all. Potato infection occurs by planting diseased potatoes or by planting tubers in already contaminated soil.
They fight with a nematode using special chemicals. Experienced gardeners recommend Bazudun. Equally important: the aster, tansy or mustard planted around the perimeter is a defense against the disease.
If the plants suffer from the attacks of the Colorado potato beetle, they are collected by hand, or sprayed with the Prestige preparation before planting in the ground. Effective preparations such as Actara, Bombardir, and Komandor are good potato protection from pests.
The value and disadvantages of culture
In the world there is no such kind of potato that would differ in only one advantage. Tuleyevsky potatoes have both positive and negative sides. Many gardeners already know about them, but only novice growers need to know about them in order to avoid trouble:

Variety Opinions
About the variety Tuleevsky to a greater extent respond positively. Gardeners claim that the main advantage is the lack of need for constant watering. Caring for a variety does not cause any particular difficulties, therefore, planting it annually to obtain a large crop is both profitable and not troublesome.
Anna, 34 years old, gardener. I liked the Tuleyevsky variety the first time I planted it. I want to note the high productivity. Pleased smooth, one in one tubers. But sometimes small and very large potatoes came across. Taste is especially good. I left the crop in the basement for storage - no damage or decay happened. I recommend to everyone.
Prokhor, 54 years old, businessman. Variety Tuleyevsky advised my mother's friend. I planted it on a site where there was a huge number of weeds. I performed several hilling procedures - there were no weeds left. I had to fight with the Colorado potato beetle, which attacked the plants. I didn’t have to make fertilizers, I expected the worst, and the yield was simply beyond praise - I received five buckets of large potatoes from one bucket.
Eugene, 22 years old, vegetable grower. In our garden, one day my father planted potatoes, a neighbor treated him to it, and said that it was a Tuleevsky variety. When it came time to dig up the tubers, we managed to get a bucket of potatoes from one bush. This could not but make us happy, because there was a time when it was tight with money, and potatoes became the main food. Tuley potato not only fed us all winter, but also delighted with its excellent taste.
